By now if you’ve spent any time (recently) in the world of romance, dating and relationships you’ve at least heard (probably anxious) whispers of: karmic, soulmate, twinflame.
And maybe you’ve even wondered what that meant but haven’t had a chance to dive in deeply though secretly you’ve wondered where you or your person (or your ex) slots into each other’s lives in these roles.
Alrighty, well today, I’m gonna give you the tea on what these terms mean, the purpose they serve in your life and to help you to discern which situation you’re in. According to many metaphysical and new-age circles we enter romantic partnerships for various life lessons so that our souls will evolve and reincarnate back to Earth with more wisdom than before. The hardest but most common way to learn these soul level lessons is through the heart. Yup that wretched game of love and heartbreak.
Woosah!
But before you start clenching your cheeks and pearls- think back to some of your most dramatic love situations and how they changed you — hopefully for the better.
See?
Yea, that’s what this is all about.
Alrighty let’s jump into it and be sure to screenshot this article for a handy reference the next time your swipe right lands you face to face — in person – with a romantic potential.

These hurt, are messy and can take decades to work through. The attraction is like none other because it’s supposed to be. To help find out if you and your person is in a Karmic relationship then look to get a Past Life Psychic Reading…or someone who reads and clears Karmic Soul Contracts via cutting Energy Cords among other methods.
- Purpose: A karmic relationship is believed to be rooted in past-life connections where unfinished business or unresolved issues need to be worked through in this lifetime. The idea is that there is a “karmic debt” between the two people that must be resolved, either through healing or growth.
- Characteristics: These relationships can be intense, challenging, and often turbulent, as they highlight patterns that need to be released or transformed. They are typically characterized by drama, conflicts, and emotional highs and lows.
- Lesson: The main lesson in a karmic relationship is learning and growth through the resolution of past karma, sometimes in painful ways. It can be a stepping stone to greater self-awareness or a deeper understanding of one’s emotional patterns.
Important to know: Take note that if you don’t learn the lessons you agreed to learn with a particular Karmic another one will step up in your life to make sure that you do actually learn the lesson if it’s in your Soul Contract (this contract is a select group of experiences you agreed to have on Earth before being born) that you must learn this lesson in a specific lifetime. Also (just for fun) a Karmic relationship can be with your children, family members, co-workers etc.
*It’s important to note that we rarely stay in a happy marriage with a Karmic though we may have children with them.

These are a lot easier and less painful than a Karmic Relationship. Often we will find that we have the most compatibility and ease here with our person. Sometimes the highs and lows aren’t that exhilarating as in a Karmic relationship and can be more comforting than exciting. But also more stable and less emotionally taxing. Think of it like having a piece of dark chocolate vs a cup of vanilla pudding. Still sweet, just different. Many people marry their soulmates and go on to have happy families and lives.
- Purpose: A soulmate is considered someone with whom you share a deep, loving, and harmonious connection. The bond can feel natural and easy, often resembling a “perfect fit.” You are believed to meet your soulmate to experience unconditional love and mutual growth.
- Characteristics: Soulmates often have a profound sense of familiarity and comfort with one another. This connection can be with friends, family, pets or romantic partners, though romantic soulmates are most commonly talked about. While a soulmate relationship is usually fulfilling, it doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be challenges. But again, they won’t be “cray-cray” like a Karmic relationship can be.
- Lesson: The main lesson is growth, companionship, and love. A soulmate supports you through life’s ups and downs, helping you become a better version of yourself in a nurturing way.
Take note that we have many soulmates both of the romantic and platonic variety. What I’ve noticed as a psychic reader is that my clients and others tend to meet a different type of soulmate depending on where they are currently in their own soul’s evolution. Which is why someone can be in a very long term relationship – leave that commitment –and then get married to someone else in record time. Often that last relationship prepared them for the next one. And that’s just one of the many beautiful gifts of a Soulmate Relationship. And yes we often have had past lives with our Soulmates as well.
What is a Twin Flame Relationship?

Now this one is tricky as heck! Take note that it can often resemble a Karmic relationship but be even more intense and the two people often find themselves breaking up and coming back together over long periods of time. The key difference between a Twin Flame and a Karmic relationship is that often Twins will have very similar backstories even if their economic-social-cultural backgrounds are different. And the Twin Flame relationship ALWAYS sparks a Spiritual Awakening – even if you’ve already had one- it opens you up for the next level of your ascension. This is deeper than the soul’s growth or rather it’s one of the deepest and quickest ways for your soul to evolve.
- Purpose: The twin flame concept is based on the idea that each soul has a perfect counterpart—its “other half.” When the two meet, it can lead to intense spiritual awakening, transformation, and growth. It’s often described as a union of two souls that were originally one before splitting into two separate entities.
- Characteristics: Twin flame relationships are intense and can involve deep emotional, mental, and spiritual connections. However, they are also known for being challenging, as they can mirror each other’s deepest fears, insecurities, and unresolved issues. The dynamic can be intense, with moments of separation and reunion, often creating profound inner change.
- Lesson: The goal of a twin flame relationship is self-realization, personal growth, and spiritual evolution. It’s not always about harmony but about the intense transformation that happens when two parts of the same soul reunite.
Take note that not all of us incarnate with our Twin Flame at the same time on Earth. We can often encounter a False Twin Flame which is really a Karmic lover. Twin Flames often know after a period of time that they have met their Twin Flame and despite what happens in the end they do wish them well even if they can’t be with that person.
And sadly, yes we don’t often end up with our Twin Flame. There is also a big school of spiritual thought that Twin Flames are here to lift the vibration of the planet and I believe personally that during this Age of Aquarius more Twin Flames will actually come into a healthy union.
So if you want to meet your Twin Flame then follow your heart – which may ask you to move locations, get on some dating apps or go out for that one party that you’re a bit too tired to go to.
Whatever it is – this particular relationship is worth it – especially if you’re someone who is working hard on their soul’s evolution in this particular lifetime.
Okay now that you’re clear here’s a quick cheat sheet so you’ll know who is who!
Defo screenshot this and let me know in the comments if you’ve experienced any of these relationships.

- Karmic Relationships: Intense, challenging, often about clearing past debts.
- Soulmates: Deep, harmonious connection focused on love and mutual growth.
- Twin Flames: Soul’s perfect mirror, intense and transformative, often involving spiritual awakening.
All three of these types of relationships can serve as catalysts for growth, though their paths can be quite different.
PS: Pray you don’t meet a karmic- but keeping it all the way honest – most of our relationships are with karmics –lol. Which is why it’s important to be careful as to the type of karma that you place out in the world.
Peace…
