Keeping Our Focus on God, Not Ourselves | Ericaism

Yesterday marked the end of our fast at Cali Worship, and my husband, Warren Campbell, delivered a powerful message about moving forward—what it truly means to “fast forward” in our faith. He spoke on how fasting connects us to the Father, stripping away selfishness and misplaced priorities so we can hear Him more clearly.

But let me tell you, he opened with a scripture that hit like a rebuke! We weren’t sure whether to laugh or say, “Lord, we’re sorry!” It was Isaiah 57:3, and it reminded us that we have to be mindful of our intentions. Are we doing things to impress God, thinking He’ll love us more because of our actions?
The truth is, God is not impressed by our deeds—Jesus already paid the ultimate price on the cross. Unless we’re headed there ourselves (which we’re not), we can’t earn extra love from God. He already loves us completely, with no conditions. There’s nothing we can do to make Him love us more. He’s not like people—He doesn’t operate on a reward system based on how good we’ve been for the week. His love is constant, and His blessings are already set with our names on them.
Sometimes, we compare God to our natural parents, thinking He reacts the way they do. But human love is different—our parents may show more affection when we behave well, but God isn’t like that. He doesn’t sit in heaven saying, “Oh, they’ve been good for six days, let me do something nice for them.” No, He already knows what’s coming, and He’s already provided.

That’s why we have to serve God with the right heart—not out of a need for validation but out of gratitude for what He’s already done. Even when I don’t see the blessing, I know it’s there. And if it takes longer than I expect, I’ll keep praising until it comes.
Some people like to say, “God has favorites.” But here’s the thing—He knows who chooses Him. He knows who spends time in prayer and who gives the enemy access to their lives. And when we open the door to the enemy, he’s more than happy to manipulate us.

That’s why our focus has to stay on God. Not on what we can get from Him, but on living a life of integrity, helping others, and staying honest. If I never receive another thing from God, He’s already been amazing. When I didn’t win the Grammy last year, I didn’t stop serving Him. I was still in church, worshiping.
So this year, when I did win, it didn’t change my posture. Whether I’m being celebrated or leading worship at the altar, my heart is for God. My goal is to see Jesus one day. If my name never gets called again, I still want to see Jesus.
So let’s keep our eyes on Him, not on ourselves. God wants to take us from glory to glory—not in material things, but in Him. People have wealth, families, and success, yet still feel empty. My joy is in the Lord, my hope is in Jesus, and my ultimate goal is eternity with Him.
