During her recent appearance on Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, Me’Kayla shared the inspiration behind the song, revealing that it was written by Tia Shere. “It’s just a call for more of the Lord,” Me’Kayla explained, emphasizing that the song speaks to the spiritual hunger many people are feeling in today’s world. The track’s powerful message left everyone in the studio deeply moved, with Me’Kayla admitting that she and the team were “crying our eyes out” after recording it.
Me’Kayla, who cites legends like Little Richard, Ray Charles, and the Clark Sisters as major influences, brings an old-soul vibe to her music. Growing up, her mother kept her away from secular music until she was around 13, but once Me’Kayla got a taste of these icons, she was hooked. “They’re so different and they don’t sound like anybody else,” she said of her musical heroes.
