Dr. King emphasized the importance of nonviolence in addressing not just societal and political conflicts, but personal ones as well. His Atlanta-based center carries on that legacy, teaching how to implement those same practices today.

As the CEO of The King Center, Bernice explained that year’s MLK Day theme, “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365,” calls communities to embrace nonviolence as a way of life. Since “struggle is a never-ending process,” as noted by her mother, she reminds listeners that every generation must continue the fight for justice, equity, and peace.

The King Center is also spearheading transformative efforts including debt relief programs for adults, financial literacy programs for children across 100 cities, and fundraising for a new campus to teach advanced technology and augmented reality, bringing the King couple’s teachings to life.
