During the interview, Hairston introduced his single “He Shall Reign,” featuring Janeisha Ballard, a standout track from Joy Is Here. Erica Campbell praised the album as “the most anointed Christmas you ever gonna hear.” Hairston explained that the project came together unexpectedly.

“Jackie Patillo called me while I was in a movie theater,” Hairston recalled. “She needed a Christmas song for a TV program in two weeks. I didn’t have any, so I teamed up with my co-MD, RC, and we recorded a Christmas record we called Christmas in July. It just felt like what we do—authentic and churchy.”

Reflecting on the album’s purpose, Hairston shared his hope that listeners feel like they’re in the room during a live worship service. “I wanted it to feel authentic,” he said. “I’m praying everyone experiences the joy and anointing in this record.”

Hairston also celebrated 25 years with Youthful Praise and a powerful reunion at The Gathering Place. “It was the first time we pulled everyone together like this,” he said. “Before we even sang a note, there was healing—people hugging and reconnecting after years. It turned into an explosion of worship.”

The Gathering Place has influenced Hairston’s music profoundly, shaping his approach to songwriting. “I feel the need to share a message in every song,” he explained. “One song we recorded, ‘He’s the Promise Keeper,’ is something I would’ve preached on a Sunday morning.”

Beyond music, Hairston emphasized the importance of his role as a husband and father. “Being a good husband and father is my number one goal,” he said. “If I fail in those areas, I fail as a man. God rewards faithfulness, and I’m trusting Him for favor in all areas of life.”
