Life has been an interesting journey for me lately. From undergoing a hysterectomy just a few weeks ago to getting back to work, it’s been a whirlwind. During my recovery, I had emails flooding in, tasks I couldn’t tackle, and opportunities I had to pause on. But amidst all of this, I was honored with a Marconi Award, and through it all, I’ve been learning how to truly rest and quiet my mind.

One thing I’ve held onto is trusting God completely. As the scripture says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight.” Another version says He’ll “direct your path.” Nowhere in scripture does it give us permission to be anxious. It doesn’t say, “If your circumstances are tough, then it’s okay to worry.” No, it says, “Be anxious for nothing.” It also reminds us that God is not afraid of bad news.

So, in this season, I’ve been leaning on God in ways I never have before. Planning my event, Laugh, Cry, Heal, has been challenging, especially when I couldn’t physically go see the venues or meet with the people involved. But God placed others in my life to handle things for me. It’s like He’s been saying, “I got you, Erica.” And I’m learning to rest in that assurance.

I love Psalm 56:8, which says, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” If God is collecting my tears and paying attention to my sorrows, why should I hold onto them? I don’t need to remind myself of the pain or what went wrong in certain seasons. God’s got it all under control.

This time of stillness has taught me to rest in a new way. No concerts, no Zooms, no performances—just rest. Resting my mind, my heart, and resting in God. And I know many of us are busy with life, family, and everything in between, but it’s so important to take moments to rest and refresh.

Does my life slow down tomorrow? Probably not. Are there still things to handle? Yes. But I’m trusting God in a different way. Even though I haven’t been able to do what I usually do, God has continued to do what He always does: take care of me. He takes care of my heart and everything concerning me, and I want to encourage you to do the same—rest in God.

I really want you to understand that God has you. Stop focusing on your circumstances and start standing on His promises. Don’t worry about how much hurt you’re carrying—He’s taking note of it all. He sees who’s trusting, who’s resting, who’s moving forward with Him, even when it’s hard. I pray that you find rest today—in your mind, in your spirit, and in your heart.

God is in control, and sometimes, He’s giving us an opportunity to be more like Jesus. And that’s what it’s all about, right? Being more like Him
