Cheryl Jackson, a longtime fan, was thrilled to talk with Brooks and noted how Grateful Chant evolved from a viral moment into a full-fledged song. Brooks explained that the message of the song is about gratitude, especially in her current season of life after losing her husband, Bishop Michael Allen Brooks. She reflected on the challenges she’s faced since his passing and how she’s coping by singing her way through it.
“My life is one second at a time. I’m breathing it out. I’m praying it out. I’m crying it out. I’m praising it out,” Brooks shared. She emphasized that no matter how difficult life can be, “the devil is a liar,” and victory is always possible. Her faith continues to guide her as she navigates this difficult chapter.

The production of Grateful Chant was a family affair, with Brooks working alongside her cousin Gerald Hatton, her brother Ali (known as Chiba), and producer Dlo. Together, they crafted a song that’s not only inspiring but a testament to Brooks’ resilience and deep-rooted faith.
Looking ahead, Brooks revealed that more music is on the way, though she’s taking things at her own pace. At 60, she’s focused on her ministry at Restoration Fellowship Church International in Detroit, a vision she continues to carry forward after her husband’s passing. “I’m still carrying that, just being prayerful,” she said.
