“The Forge” tells the story of Isaiah, a 19-year-old who struggles with the transition from boyhood to manhood. Shirer plays Cynthia, Isaiah’s concerned mother, who prays for God to bring strong male role models into his life to help him find direction. Shirer, excited about the film’s impact, noted, “It’s a spectacular thing to behold.” Fans of “War Room” will find familiarity in this film, as it introduces new characters while maintaining the heart of its predecessor.

This marks Shirer’s third collaboration with the Kendrick Brothers, solidifying her status as an actress. She was drawn to the project by the Kendrick Brothers’ integrity and their commitment to honoring Jesus through their films. “They so want to unapologetically honor Jesus… and to edify God’s people,” she said. As a mother of three boys, Shirer felt a personal connection to the story, recognizing the importance of male role models in her sons’ lives. “I just knew the impact of that on my own sons’ lives,” she explained.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the filmmaking process was the emphasis on prayer and devotion. Shirer shared that every morning, the cast and crew, about 100 people, would gather for devotions and prayer. Before filming crucial scenes, they would pause to invite the Holy Spirit’s presence. “They ask the Holy Spirit of God to be present on that scene so that God will do his work… in movie theaters,” Shirer explained.

When asked about the importance of true discipleship, Shirer offered profound insights. She described discipleship as a personal commitment to follow Jesus, emphasizing that it involves surrendering everything to Him. “The issue for the disciple is not how close can I get to the line of sin without crossing it. The question for the disciple is, how close can I get to Jesus?” she passionately stated. Shirer also highlighted the importance of mentorship in discipleship, urging believers to open their lives to others and guide them in their spiritual journey.

In addition to discussing the film, Shirer spoke about her latest book, I Surrender All, specifically geared towards women. The book calls believers to fully submit every aspect of their lives to God, drawing inspiration from the classic hymn of the same name. “It’s not necessarily easy, but it is worth it because He has given so much for us,” she emphasized.

As the interview concluded, Shirer reiterated the importance of supporting The Forge on its opening weekend. She emphasized that the film is a tool for the body of Christ, meant to reach those who may not read a book or attend church but might find their way to Jesus through a movie. “We’ve gotten thousands of letters from people who have come to know Jesus because of these films,” Shirer said, underlining the impact that such films can have on viewers.

The Forge releases in theaters on August 23rd. Priscilla Shirer encourages everyone to gather their communities and experience this powerful film together. Erica Campbell, echoing Shirer’s enthusiasm, urged listeners to support the film and its message.
