Every morning, I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock, and let me tell you, after eight years of doing this show, my relationship with that alarm is still complicated. I’m not exactly thrilled when it goes off, but I know I need it. That annoying buzz is a reminder that I have something important to do. And that’s exactly what reminders do—they nudge us to prepare for what lies ahead.

In life, it’s easy to forget the things that matter if we don’t set reminders. Sure, we set alarms to wake up for work, but what about the other important aspects of our lives? We need to be intentional about preparing our bodies, lives, and spirits for what’s coming.

Think about it—what do alarms really do? They alert us to get ready because something needs our time and attention. Without these reminders, we might miss out on the important preparations. And trust me, preparation is key because God has great things in store for us, but we must be ready to receive them.

Over the weekend, I was speaking in North Carolina, sharing this message with the ladies there. If you’re praying for financial blessings but don’t know how to manage money, you need to prepare yourself first. If you aspire to be a leader, you must understand that leadership comes with challenges—like knowing not everyone will support you or that those who aren’t called to lead may not understand your path. But that doesn’t mean they’re against you; it just means leadership isn’t their calling.

God will prepare you for what He’s called you to do, but you have to do your part too. Take a moment to reflect on your life—what do you need to prepare for? We often prepare for things like summer vacations, birthdays, or retirement, but what if we started preparing for greatness instead? Preparing to be better in the Word, for example, doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intentional reminders to study, to keep God’s word at the forefront, and to make it a priority.

Maybe you’re learning to communicate better or taking a class—these things require deliberate effort. If you want your life to improve and be ready for all that God has planned for you, preparation is essential. Don’t let the blessings God has for you catch you off guard. Set reminders to prepare, and then remind yourself why you’re preparing. You’re doing this because you’re aiming for something great. Whether it’s studying to show yourself approved or working toward a degree, preparation is the key to handling the blessings God has prepared for you.

I’ve had to apply this in my own life, especially when dealing with procrastination. Sometimes, procrastination is just another word for fear—fear that we might not do something well. But don’t let fear hold you back. Start, move forward, and step out in faith. Prepare for what God has in store for you. That’s my Erica-ism for today. Love you and I mean it.
