On a recent episode of Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, I had the chance to share my personal journey about embracing self-love and making meaningful changes in my life. As I took the mic, I reflected on the powerful message behind my current single, “It’s Morning,” and how it ties into my broader philosophy of self-improvement.

My story began during a challenging period in my life—my divorce. I struggled with self-love and self-care, feeling overwhelmed by comparison and dissatisfaction. I remember getting up every morning not loving myself. It was during this tough time that I turned to prayer, asking for guidance on how to truly love myself despite everything I was going through.

The answer I received was both simple and profound. God told me to get a piece of paper and create two columns. On the left side, I listed “things that are in Latrice’s power to change,” like getting fit, establishing a skincare routine, and managing my finances better. The right column was for “things that are in God’s power to change,” which addressed more personal and internal struggles.

Through this exercise, I realized that self-love didn’t have to be an overwhelming or complex journey. I learned that focusing on what I could control—my habits and self-care practices—was key. The beginning of that journey was just to stop comparing myself to others. By gradually creating habits that would bring about the desired results, I found that I was able to make meaningful changes in my life.

I discovered that if I wanted things around me to change, I had to first become that change. This shift in mindset not only altered my perspective but also led to tangible improvements. I saw positive results, like losing weight, clearing up my skin, and managing my finances better.

In a conversation with Cheryl, another guest on the show, we both agreed on this approach. She pointed out, “We all have to get to that place too when changing the things that you can change and not just thinking you can’t ever do this.” She emphasized the importance of making gradual, sustainable changes rather than overwhelming ourselves with too many goals at once.

My reflection underscores a universal truth: embracing change and self-love is a gradual process that requires patience and persistence. By focusing on small, actionable steps and trusting the journey, I found that personal growth and empowerment are truly attainable.

In closing, I want to leave you with a heartfelt message: be the change, do the work at your own pace. This mindset helped me navigate my journey to self-love, and I hope it inspires you to embark on your own path to transformation.
